Alcaraz Stops: Withdraws From Rome And Roland Garros Due To Wrist Injury

Carlos Alcaraz will not play the Italian Open or Roland Garros. The Spaniard, world number 2, announced the decision on April 24, 2026, after undergoing exams on the right wrist he injured at the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona.

"After the results of the exams carried out today, we have decided that the most prudent thing is not to participate in Rome and Roland Garros, we will evaluate the evolution to decide when to return," Alcaraz wrote on his channels. "It's a difficult moment for me, but I am sure we will come out of it stronger."

The withdrawal comes after the one already announced for the Madrid Masters 1000. Alcaraz was set to arrive as the defending champion both in Rome, won in 2025, and at Roland Garros, also claimed last year. The double withdrawal means giving up three thousand points to defend: one thousand for the Rome title, two thousand for the Paris one.

The timing is striking: the injury comes in the heart of the clay-court season, the surface on which the Spaniard has built much of his identity as a player. The race for the number one ranking, in the coming weeks, is now played on a different court from the one Alcaraz had imagined.
