Anisimova ends her season: the wrist stops her

Amanda Anisimova announced on Monday, September 28, on Instagram that she is ending her 2026 season early because of a new wrist injury:
"I will be wrapping up my season for the year. I sustained a wrist injury again, that I need to take care of. Time to get healthy, reset, and see you all in 2027."
The American, world No. 11, will therefore also skip the Wuhan tournament.
The withdrawal follows two other recent pullouts. Anisimova had already scratched from her Asian swing opener at the Singapore Tennis Open, then withdrew from the China Open in Beijing, where she was defending the title she won in 2025 with a final victory over Linda Noskova. Her post doesn't name a comeback tournament: by the calendar, that effectively points to the 2027 Australian Open, the first Slam of next season.
The season ends with a 22-12 record and a single semifinal, in Dubai, lost to Jessica Pegula. There were quarterfinals in Melbourne and Cincinnati, both ended by that same Pegula, and three third-round exits at the Slams: Roland Garros against Diane Parry, Wimbledon against Madison Keys, and the US Open against Anastasia Potapova, 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and thirty-nine minutes. That loss in New York, twelve months after reaching the 2025 final, stands as her last match played.
The ranking tells the heaviest part of the story: Anisimova opened 2026 at world No. 3, her career-high ranking, reached on January 5 on the back of her Wimbledon and US Open finals the year before.
The wrist had already flared up in the spring, forcing her to skip Madrid, and she returned in time for Roland Garros. Four months after that return, the problem resurfaced, and this time she chose a full stop instead of pushing on through the rest of the year.
