Draper Withdraws From The US Open: The Arm Won't Heal

Jack Draper withdrew from the US Open on Friday. The Briton, ranked 143rd in the world, had entered qualifying, set to begin Monday 24 August, and pulled out of the draw because of a bone bruise in his left arm, the one he plays with.

It's the fourth Slam he's missed this season. After the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon, Draper will finish 2026 without playing a single Major. He reached the semifinals in New York in 2024; last year, seeded No. 5, he won his first-round match against Federico Agustín Gómez and retired before the second. The arm hasn't given him a break since. The world No. 4 of June 2025 is now outside the top 140.

His summer comeback lasted two matches. He lost in the opener at Montreal to Terence Atmane, then at Cincinnati to Martin Landaluce 6-3, 7-5, with 12 double faults and six wasted set points in the second set. The year's only bright spot remains Indian Wells, where, as defending champion, he beat Novak Djokovic 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5), his first career win over the Serb.

That same Friday, Jannik Sinner also withdrew because of his right knee. The main draw starts Sunday 30 August.
