Kvitova Returns in Luxembourg: Six Months After the Twins

Petra Kvitova returns to a tennis court at the Luxembourg Ladies Tennis Masters, set for the Coque from October 13 to 18. It will be the Czech's first match since her retirement in August 2025, coming just over six months after the birth of her twin daughters Emma and Ella, born on March 30.
Her last time on court was August 25, 2025, first round of the US Open, beaten 6-1, 6-0 by Diane Parry. Then came the tears and a farewell to the Flushing Meadows crowd.
"It was a long and extraordinary journey"
she said at the time, closing out a career with 31 WTA titles, two Wimbledon crowns (2011 and 2014), and a world No. 2 ranking reached on October 31, 2011.
The Luxembourg event is an exhibition tournament now in its fifth edition: eight former players, a straight knockout draw with no third set, a 10-point super tiebreak in its place, and 110,000 euros in prize money, 50,000 of which goes to the winner. Joining Kvitova will be Angelique Kerber, the defending champion, along with Agnieszka Radwanska, Dominika Cibulkova, Magdalena Rybarikova, Monica Puig, Tatiana Golovin, and Yanina Wickmayer.
Luxembourg is no new territory for her. In 2016 she played the BGL Open final there and lost it 6-4, 6-0 to Monica Niculescu. Ten years later she returns at 36, with three children at home, the first, Petr, born in July 2024. What's at stake is an exhibition, and the curiosity of seeing her serve again.
