Medvedev bounces back in Shanghai: 21 aces to beat Struff

Daniil Medvedev beat Jan-Lennard Struff 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the second round of the Shanghai Masters 1000, serving 21 aces. It was the Russian's first match since his default on Monday, October 5, in the China Open semifinal against Novak Djokovic.
In Beijing, Medvedev was down 7-5, 5-3 when, after losing a point, he hit the ball as it bounced off the back wall. It landed in the front row and struck a fan in the left eye. The Russian apologized, calling it an accident, and forfeited the points and prize money he had earned at the tournament. Djokovic also defended him after the match:
"I am sure that Daniil didn't want to do this intentionally."
Five days later in Shanghai, the world number 6 lost the first set to the German, ranked 59th, before coming back. Medvedev, the fifth seed who had a first-round bye, had already beaten Struff last Saturday in the second round of the China Open.
In the third round he will face Czech qualifier Dalibor Svrcina.
