No Roland Garros for Musetti

Lorenzo Musetti has announced his withdrawal from Roland Garros 2026. The tests carried out after yesterday's defeat to Casper Ruud in the round of 16 at the Internazionali in Rome revealed a lesion to the rectus femoris of the left thigh, which will force him into several weeks of rest. The Tuscan will also miss the Hamburg 500, scheduled from 17 to 23 May.

"News that weighs on me enormously," Musetti wrote on social media. In Rome he had already taken the court physically compromised, and was swept aside 6-3, 6-1 in an hour and a quarter by the Norwegian, after asking for a medical timeout in the second set.

The ranking cost is heavy. In Paris, Musetti was defending 800 points from his 2025 semifinal, when he retired against Carlos Alcaraz after winning the first set and losing the second in a tie-break. He has already slipped out of the top 10 in recent weeks, and after Roland Garros he risks dropping out of the top 15 as well.

It is the third physical setback of the season for the Carrara native, after retiring in the Australian Open quarterfinals against Djokovic and the withdrawal on the eve of Miami. A season that had opened with the best of hopes and which now, just over a year after his entry into the top ten in the world, turns into a continuous chase after a body that is not responding.
