Noskova Queen of Wimbledon: First Slam in an All-Czech Final

Linda Noskova beat compatriot Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 on Centre Court, claiming at 21 her first Grand Slam title in the first women's final of the Open era between two Czech players. The number 9 seed thus rises to number 7 in the rankings, a new career best that will become official on Monday.

She becomes the youngest Wimbledon champion since Petra Kvitova, who in 2011 lifted at 21 the first of her two trophies on London's grass. A symbol for Czech tennis, which takes home the Venus Rosewater Dish for the third time in four years after Marketa Vondrousova in 2023 and Barbora Krejcikova in 2024.

The match had a turning point that could have changed everything. After dominating the first set, Noskova was ahead in the second too and had five points to close it out, but Muchova saved them all and fought back to take it 7-5. Her response, in a first Slam final, said a lot: instead of crumbling under the weight of the moment, Noskova took control of the third set and gave her rival no more room.

It is her third career title, but of a completely different order from the previous ones. At twenty-one, after two weeks built point by point, Noskova leaves SW19 with the certainty that she belongs on the biggest stages.
