Record-Breaking Italy at Wimbledon: Nine Azzurri in Qualifying

There are nine Italians in the field for the men's singles qualifying at Wimbledon 2026, a presence the Italian press has hailed as a record for the Azzurri movement. Leading the group is Matteo Berrettini, a London finalist in 2021 and now forced to go through qualifying after falling just a few spots short of direct entry into the main draw.

Alongside him are Andrea Pellegrino, Francesco Maestrelli, Stefano Travaglia, Luca Nardi, Marco Cecchinato, Gianluca Cadenasso and Lorenzo Giustino. The ninth name is that of Andrea Guerrieri, 27, from Correggio, who made it into the draw thanks to the latest movements: for him it is an absolute debut in a Slam tournament, reached after touching his best ranking around the No. 230 mark.

The qualifying figures tell the story of the depth reached by the Italian movement better than any ranking, capable of bringing such a large group into the qualifying draw of a Slam, far beyond its headline names.
