WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY:

🇳🇴 Ruud Into The Final, Darderi Stopped By His Legs

Casper Ruud beat Luciano Darderi 6-1 6-1 in a semifinal interrupted midway through the first set by rain that kept the players off court for almost two hours, and that, on resumption, left two players on Centre Court in opposite conditions. The Norwegian becomes the sixth active player to reach the final at all three clay-court Masters 1000 events, and gets there after a week built with the craft of someone who knows where to put his feet in Rome. More than the scoreline, in a semifinal of this level what weighs is the physical asymmetry the two brought onto court: Darderi arrived with nine hours already in his legs from the previous rounds, and a night that finished past midnight against Jodar that, inside a week like this, leaves bills that don't get settled within twenty-four hours. What remains is a run that sees him leave the Foro just outside the Top 15, and with the sense that the more stable version of Darderi on clay is still to come.

🇮🇹 Sinner-Medvedev, Rain Pushes Everything To Saturday

The second ATP semifinal stopped around 21:45 at 6-2 5-7 4-2 in Sinner's favor, with Medvedev serving at Ad/40, and an exchange between the Italian and umpire Tourte about court conditions preceded the definitive suspension by just a few minutes. It's a match that has already shifted in tone three times: dominance in the first set, a counter-break in the closing stages of the second after a missed chance at 5-3, a third set in which Medvedev's tactical plan seemed to have found a different balance. Resuming midway through a service game after a night and half a day of pause is one of those situations where high-level tennis resembles a different discipline: composure in the first fifteen minutes matters, and the nerves of the player with more to lose matter. Sinner is defending a Masters 1000 streak that opened in Paris last November, after his last defeat in this category at Shanghai 2025 against Griekspoor: thirty-two consecutive wins that today could become thirty-three, inside the most uncomfortable of restarts.

They restart from an incomplete game, with the Italian already a break up in the deciding set: the question isn't so much whether Sinner can close out a match like this, but how much Medvedev can afford to return to court with the same tactical read he had walking off on Friday evening.
• 🇺🇦 Svitolina vs 🇺🇸 Gauff - WTA final on Centre Court, no earlier than 17:00. Svitolina is in her third Rome final and gets there after beating Swiatek 6-4 2-6 6-2 in an evening that ended past 1 a.m., saving a number of break points that already counts as a small story of its own. Svitolina leads 3-2 in the head-to-head, with two wins already chalked up in 2026 against the American, who returns to a Foro final a year later, in a less spectacular version than the one seen during her American months but more orderly on this kind of surface.
• ATP doubles semifinals - Opening program on Centre Court from 12:00. With no Italian singles players left in the draw, the morning also doubles as a space in which doubles specialists step back into the spotlight at the last European clay-court Masters 1000 before Roland Garros.
