Shelton And Swiatek Champions In Canada: Now Cincinnati

Ben Shelton beat Brandon Nakashima 6-3, 7-6(4) in Montreal and Iga Swiatek defeated Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 in 75 minutes in Toronto. The two National Bank Open finals were played on the same night, between Thursday the 13th and Friday the 14th of August, both in straight sets.

Shelton won the tournament without dropping a set and without facing a single break point in the final. He's the first man to defend the Canada title since Rafael Nadal in 2019, and it's his seventh career title, his fourth of 2026, his second Masters 1000. His head-to-head record against Nakashima stands at 6-0. An all-American Masters 1000 final hadn't happened since 2003, in Cincinnati. Nakashima leaves Montreal with a career-high ranking of No. 22.

For Swiatek the tally reads differently: her 26th career title, her twelfth at WTA 1000 level, but her first since Seoul last September. Before Toronto, the Pole hadn't even reached a final in 2026. The trophy completes her collection of the major North American hard-court titles, after Indian Wells, Miami, Cincinnati and the US Open.

Now it’s Cincinnati time, the main draw already started on August 13 and wraps up on the 23rd. Alexander Zverev is the top seed, Shelton the eighth, with Auger-Aliassime projected as his quarterfinal opponent. Swiatek defends the title she won in 2025 against Paolini: she's the No. 7 seed and finds herself in the same quarter as Rybakina, just days after the Toronto final.
