Sinner Matches Djokovic: 31 Consecutive Wins in Masters 1000

Jannik Sinner defeated Andrea Pellegrino 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and a half in the round of 16 at the Italian Open, claiming his 31st consecutive win in Masters 1000 tournaments and equalling the record set by Novak Djokovic in 2011.

Sinner's streak began in Paris in October 2025, immediately after his third-round retirement in Shanghai against Tallon Griekspoor. Since then the world number one has racked up six Masters 1000 titles in a row: Paris, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid and now the run at the Foro Italico, where he remains unbeaten. Against fellow Italians, his career record on the ATP Tour stands at 19-0.

Pellegrino, a 29-year-old from Bisceglie, was playing his first main draw at a Masters 1000. He had come through two qualifying rounds, then beaten Nardi, benefited from Fils's retirement, and pulled off a surprise win over Frances Tiafoe in the third round. Against Sinner he paid the price in the opening games, 4-0 in twelve minutes, before finding his rhythm and holding the court better, particularly in the second set. In the quarterfinals the Italian will face the winner of Andrey Rublev and Nikoloz Basilashvili: a victory would mean overtaking Djokovic and a record that seemed untouchable just six months ago.
