Sinner Out Of The US Open: The Right Knee Has Not Healed

Jannik Sinner will not play the US Open. The world No. 1 announced it on his own Instagram profile, ending two weeks of waiting on his condition:

"Even though I have been working hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year."

The reason is the same as two weeks ago: the right knee.

"We have been back on court in Monte Carlo over the last couple of days and have realised that I still need more time to recover from my right knee issue,"

he wrote.

Sinner had already withdrawn from Cincinnati with the same problem, saying then that he was not ready to compete and that he was focusing on New York.

"I'm obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York has a special place in my heart, […] I was very much looking forward to coming back and playing in the electric atmosphere in front of the great fans there."

The main draw starts on Sunday 30 August. Sinner was the beaten finalist there: in 2025 he lost the title match to Carlos Alcaraz 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. The Spaniard, who on Thursday announced his own return after four months out with a right wrist problem, remains the defending champion. In the space of twenty-four hours the US Open has got one player back and lost the other.
