Sinner Skips Beijing: Knee Not Ready

Jannik Sinner announced today, September 25, that he's withdrawing from the China Open, the ATP 500 in Beijing running from September 30 to October 6.

"My knee isn't where I'd like it to be yet. I'm not ready to compete,"

the Italian said in a video message, adding that he'll do everything he can to get back on court as soon as possible. He gave no timeline.

The right knee problem has kept him out since July 12, the day of the Wimbledon final he won against Alexander Zverev 6-7(7-9), 7-6(7-2), 6-3, 6-4. Since then Sinner has withdrawn from Montreal, Cincinnati and the US Open. Beijing is the fourth tournament skipped in a row, and in China he was defending the title he won in 2025 against Learner Tien, beaten 6-2, 6-2 in the final.

The ranking toll is starting to add up. As of September 14, Sinner led the ATP rankings with 11,500 points, 1,810 more than Zverev, but in the Race the German has moved ahead by 700 points after his US Open title. From here to the end of the season, the Italian has 3,550 points to defend, Zverev 1,080.

That's two and a half months without an official match, with two Masters 1000s, a Slam and now an ATP 500 left behind. The Asian swing continues with Shanghai from October 7, but Sinner's team has given no indication of when he'll return.
