Volandri Reassures: Sinner Training for Ten Days

Filippo Volandri gave an update on Jannik Sinner's condition at the SuperTennis studios, during the latest episode of Tennis Talk:
"Jannik has already been training for about ten days, gradually increasing the training load".
The Davis Cup captain recalled that the world No. 1 was out for almost fifty days and that, based on the information he has, "he's training and he's doing well".
Sinner hasn't played an official match since the July 12 Wimbledon final, won against Alexander Zverev 6-7(7-9), 7-6(7-2), 6-3, 6-4. The right knee problem then cost him three consecutive withdrawals: Montreal, Cincinnati and the US Open, from which he withdrew on August 21, explaining that he still needed more time to recover from the right knee problem. Despite more than two months out, the South Tyrolean has just started his ninetieth week atop the ATP rankings.
Volandri didn't name a tournament for the comeback. On the expected level, he was more explicit:
"I believe he'll come back competitive, the way he left us in the London final".
On the Davis Cup, no guarantees. The Final 8 will be played at the BolognaFiere Arena from November 24 to 29, with Italy taking the court on the 25th against South Korea, but the captain put recovery ahead of everything:
"For Jannik, obviously, the priority is getting back to 100%, so he needs all the time he needs".
Then, he added, "we'll have all the necessary discussions".
Ten days of increasing training loads say little about the comeback date and a lot about whether the knee is holding up under the work. For a player who spent the summer postponing, that's already something.
