Wimbledon Lands In New York: A Grass Court In Central Park

For the first time, Wimbledon brings a playable grass court to New York. From Friday 26 to Monday 29 June 2026, the Wollman Rink in Central Park, normally an ice-skating rink, hosts "The Wimbledon Court in Central Park": a temporary green surface installed and tended by the very gardeners who look after the All England Club courts.

It is the fifth year in a row that Wimbledon has staged a summer event in New York, but the first time it has built a real grass court there. The opening is entrusted to the "Wimbledon Court Invitational", a doubles exhibition scheduled for Friday afternoon: Andre Agassi and Eugenie Bouchard take on James Blake and Caroline Wozniacki. Gates open at 11, the opening ceremony at 13:30, and the first rally at 14:00.

After Friday afternoon, the event becomes free and open to the public until Monday, with no ticket and on a first-come, first-served basis: the playing slots had been assigned through a public draw that is now closed. Over the four days there will be free clinics with the coaches, strawberries and cream, Pimm's and Champagne Lanson, a "Creator Cup" with influencers, a wheelchair court session, and moments dedicated to local tennis associations. On Monday 29 June, big screens will broadcast the first day of the Championships live.

"We are delighted to bring Wimbledon to the United States for the fifth year in a row, giving New York's fans a taste of Wimbledon,"

said Usama Al-Qassab, marketing and commercial director of the AELTC, speaking of the wish to bring "the celebration of tennis in an English garden" to iconic Central Park. Just days before the start of the Championships, the most traditional tournament on the tour takes the opposite path: exporting its own grass-court identity, for free, into the heart of Manhattan.
