Berrettini Out In The First Round In Madrid: Top 100 At Risk

Matteo Berrettini was eliminated in the first round of the Mutua Madrid Open by Croatian Dino Prizmic, who prevailed 6-3, 6-4 at the Caja Magica. For the Roman, currently number 92 in the ATP ranking, the defeat comes at the worst possible moment: from the Monday after the tournament, he will slip to the edge of the top 100.

Prizmic, twenty years old, who entered the main draw from qualifying, inherited the match against Berrettini after Raphael Collignon's withdrawal. The Croatian reached his career-best ranking of number 87 on April 13 and will now face Ben Shelton in the second round.

The math isn't on Berrettini's side. He had 650 points and a third-round result to defend here in Madrid from the 2025 edition, equal to fifty points that will now be dropped.
