Miami Open Under the Rain: First Day Cancelled

The 2026 Miami Open did not start as planned. Rain forced organizers to cancel all first-round matches scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, postponing the entire day to Thursday.

Among the postponed matches were those of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Matteo Berrettini, Hubert Hurkacz and Jan-Lennard Struff, as well as Venus Williams's match. A total of six ATP main draw matches were cancelled from the schedule, with the Grandstand, Butch Buchholz and Court 1 remaining unplayable throughout the day. Weather issues had already affected the tournament on Sunday, March 15, when all twenty-four qualifying matches and practice sessions were postponed to the following Monday.

The issue remains the lack of a roof on the Hard Rock Stadium, which leaves the Florida Masters 1000 at the mercy of spring weather. With more rain forecast for Thursday and Friday, the first-round schedule risks piling up, forcing some players to play multiple matches in quick succession during the second half of the week.
