Musetti Skips Wimbledon: Sidelined Again by Thigh Injury

Lorenzo Musetti will not play Wimbledon. The world number 11 announced his withdrawal from the tournament with a message on Instagram, stopped once again by the injury to the rectus femoris of his left thigh that has kept him off the courts since mid-May.

"The rehabilitation is going very well and the clinical results are encouraging," wrote the Tuscan. "Unfortunately, since I have not yet been able to begin a full athletic training program, after careful evaluation we have reached the difficult conclusion that I will not be able to take part in Wimbledon this year."

The injury dates back to his loss against Casper Ruud at the Internazionali d'Italia, his last official match. From there began a layoff that already forced Musetti to miss Roland Garros, where twelve months earlier he had reached the semifinals. Wimbledon is the second consecutive Slam the Tuscan is forced to watch from home.

His withdrawal frees up a spot in the main draw, which goes to another Italian: Matteo Berrettini, a finalist at the Championships in 2021. For Musetti, a semifinalist on the London grass in 2024, it is yet another chapter in a season cut short just as it was getting good, with heavy points to defend evaporating and a ranking that will inevitably suffer.
