Lorenzo Musetti with the ATP 250 Lyon trophy

Lorenzo Musetti beat Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the Grand Prix Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes in Lyon to win his first tournament since 2022. It is his third ATP title after Hamburg and Naples, and it ends a run of seven consecutive lost finals.

Against Fritz, the No. 2 seed, the Italian held serve in all ten of his service games without facing a break point and broke the American twice. He had already beaten him in January, in the round of 16 at the Australian Open.

Musetti, the sixth seed, arrived in Lyon after a stop-start season. In Melbourne he retired in the quarterfinals against Novak Djokovic while leading by two sets to love, and a rectus femoris injury then kept him out of Roland Garros and Wimbledon. At the ATP 250 indoor event at the LDLC Arena in Décines-Charpieu, in its first edition since moving from Marseille, he beat Matteo Arnaldi, wildcard Moïse Kouamé and, in the quarterfinals, Luca Van Assche in three sets, for his 200th tour-level win.

In the semifinal against Flavio Cobolli, down 4-5 in the third set, Musetti saved four match points and won 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 after more than two and a half hours.
