WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY:

🇩🇪 Zverev Reaches The Paris Final Again

Alexander Zverev beat Jakub Mensik 7-5 6-2 3-6 6-3, reaching his second Roland Garros final and his fourth in a Major. The third set he let slip tells of a less linear match than the overall scoreline suggests, with the young Czech able to raise his level just when the German seemed to have pulled clear. More than the quality, what strikes about Zverev is his ability not to get dragged into those moments, managing the fourth set with the composure of someone who knows this kind of occasion well. In the background remain the three Slam finals already lost, against Thiem, Alcaraz and Sinner, a detail that in Paris weighs as much as the draw.

🇮🇹 Cobolli In The Final, But Without Stepping On Court

Flavio Cobolli is the first finalist, reached however in the bitterest way: Matteo Arnaldi withdrew shortly before the all-Italian semifinal due to a flu virus, with fever and dizziness that kept him from playing. Cobolli thus becomes the sixth Italian ever to reach a Slam final and the third in Paris in the Open Era, after Panatta and Sinner, but it is a milestone that arrives without a decisive shot to tell. The feeling is that this final will find him fresh, a condition that ahead of Sunday counts more than it seems. For Arnaldi, instead, what remains is a run cut short in the way no player would ever want.

WHAT'S HAPPENING TODAY:

Andreeva vs Chwalinska (Chatrier, not before 3:00 PM) - The women's final closes the Saturday programme, after the men's doubles final. Mirra Andreeva, 19 years old and world number 8, is the youngest finalist in Paris since Gauff in 2022, and starts as the favourite. Facing her is Maja Chwalinska, number 114 and the first qualifier ever to reach the Roland Garros final, as well as the second qualifier ever to make a Slam final in the Open Era, after Raducanu in 2021.
One to watch - Whatever the outcome, Saturday will crown a Slam champion winning her first title: two opposite journeys meeting at the only point where they could ever cross.
