🇧🇷 Fonseca Fights Back From Two Sets Down Against Djokovic

Joao Fonseca, nineteen years old, beat Novak Djokovic 4-6 4-6 6-3 7-5 7-5 on Chatrier after four hours and fifty-three minutes, becoming the first teenager to knock the Serb out of a Slam. Djokovic, 39, had taken the first two sets playing the tennis we have always known, before the match dragged on and the Brazilian's freshness began to tell set after set. More than the comeback itself, what stands out is the way Fonseca kept his head in the match even when the scoreline told him otherwise, and the stat that remains is Djokovic's exit, his earliest in Paris in seventeen years. With Sinner already out and Alcaraz absent, the men's draw is now certain to crown a first-time Slam champion.

🇳🇴 Ruud Survives In The Fifth Against Paul

Casper Ruud beat Tommy Paul 4-6 6-7(4) 6-4 7-6(4) 7-5, saving two match points while serving at 4-5 down in the fourth set, having found himself one step from the exit after dropping the first two sets. The Norwegian, a two-time finalist here, has built much of his clay-court career on matches exactly like this, where holding up in uncomfortable moments matters more than any single shot. It remains to be seen how much a comeback this long will cost him heading into the next round, because winning from that position breeds confidence but also leaves plenty of hours on the legs.

🇨🇿 Mensik Turns It Around Against De Minaur After A 6-0

Jakub Mensik lost the first set 6-0 in twenty-five minutes and then beat Alex de Minaur 0-6 6-2 6-2 6-3, reaching the round of 16 in Paris for the first time. The Czech, who had complained of cramps after the previous round, flipped the momentum as the rallies grew longer, finding a way to trouble one of the most solid movers on the tour. Matches that start like this, with a one-sided opening set, usually say more than the final score does about the ability to stay in the contest when everything looks already decided.

🇵🇱 Swiatek And Andreeva Without A Hitch, Muchova Goes Out

Iga Swiatek got past compatriot Magda Linette 6-4 6-4, while Mirra Andreeva, the eighth seed, dispatched Marie Bouzkova 6-4 6-2: two clean runs, managed without giving much away. The off note of the women's day was struck by Jil Teichmann, who eliminated tenth seed Karolina Muchova 6-1 7-5 with an almost perfect first set. For Swiatek these rounds are mainly about locking in her rhythm before the second week, while Muchova's exit, one of the most creative players in the draw, robs the bottom half of one of its most interesting storylines.

• 🇮🇹 Berrettini - Comesaña (ATP, third round) - Matteo Berrettini faces Argentina's Francisco Comesaña on Simonne-Mathieu no earlier than 13:00. With Sinner out, he has become the most anticipated Italian in the draw, and this is one of those stages where you find out how well his fitness holds over the distance.
• 🇮🇹 Arnaldi - Collignon (ATP, third round) - Matteo Arnaldi, fresh off his win over Tsitsipas, takes on Belgium's Raphael Collignon on Court 14: two players who got here by beating seeds, in a match more open than the rankings suggest.
• 🇧🇾 Sabalenka - Kasatkina (WTA, third round) - Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, plays on Lenglen against Daria Kasatkina. On clay the Belarusian remains less comfortable than elsewhere, and rounds like this serve to show where her staying power stands.
• 🇺🇸 Gauff - Potapova (WTA, third round) - Coco Gauff, the defending champion, takes to Chatrier no earlier than 16:00 against Anastasia Potapova. For the American it's time to confirm the calm efficiency that has become her signature in Paris.
• 🇯🇵 Osaka - Jovic (WTA, third round) - Naomi Osaka, in the third round for the first time since 2019, opens Lenglen against young American Iva Jovic in a clash between different generations.
• 🇨🇦 Auger-Aliassime - Nakashima (ATP, third round, night session) - Felix Auger-Aliassime closes out the day on Chatrier from 20:15 against Brandon Nakashima. With the top of the draw blown apart, every step of the players still standing takes on a different weight.
