Sinner, 100 Slam Wins: In the Club of the Greats at 24

Jannik Sinner reached the milestone of 100 wins at Grand Slam tournaments by winning Wimbledon, where he beat Alexander Zverev 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the final. At 24, the South Tyrolean becomes the seventh-youngest player of the Open era to reach one hundred wins at the Majors.

His Slam record now stands at 100 wins and 22 losses, an 82 percent success rate. In the ranking of the fastest to reach one hundred wins, Sinner is preceded only by Bjorn Borg, Boris Becker, Mats Wilander, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Pete Sampras. A list that says a great deal about the company the Italian is now keeping.

He is also the eighth active player to join the 100-Slam-wins club, alongside Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka, Marin Cilic, Zverev himself, Gael Monfils, Kei Nishikori and Grigor Dimitrov. But the figure that carries the most weight is his age: nearly all the others reached the threshold later in their careers, after building on consistency rather than precocity.

The hundredth win comes on the day of his second consecutive title at the Championships, the fifth Slam in his cabinet. Against Zverev, Sinner lost the first set on a tie-break before stringing together the next three sets, closing out a final more hard-fought than the set score suggests. At twenty-four, the numbers are beginning to place him in a company that until recently belonged only to the names who have defined the history of the game.
