🇪🇸 Alcaraz Sweeps Dimitrov In An Hour

Carlos Alcaraz beat Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-3 in just over an hour on his Indian Wells debut, extending his winning streak to thirteen consecutive victories in 2026. Two breaks in the first set, a controlled second set sealed with a decisive break at 5-3.

More than the win itself, what stood out was the Spaniard's overall match management, playing with almost clinical precision despite the wind that affected the entire day. "I prefer to focus on what's happening on my side of the net," Alcaraz said after the match. Dimitrov, still far from his best after his pectoral injury, tried to change the pace in the second set but never found enough consistency to trouble the world number one.

🇷🇸 Djokovic Struggles But Comes Back Against Majchrzak

Novak Djokovic beat Kamil Majchrzak 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 in two hours and twelve minutes, in his first match since the Australian Open final in January. The Serb lost the first set with uncertain play, suffered stomach problems during the match, then found his range in the remaining sets.

The feeling is that Djokovic needed time to find his competitive rhythm after two months away. "It's been hard for me lately to play at my best," he admitted. The mental reset at the start of the second set was evident, and from that point the level rose steadily. Matches like these, against opponents playing with nothing to lose, can be more valuable than the draw suggests, especially when returning to competition after a long break. Aleksandar Kovacevic awaits in the third round.

🇧🇷 Fonseca Saves Two Match Points And Beats Khachanov

Joao Fonseca eliminated sixteenth seed Karen Khachanov 4-6, 7-6(9-7), 6-4, saving two match points in the second-set tiebreak when the Russian was leading 6-4. At nineteen, he is the second youngest to reach the third round at Indian Wells this decade, after Alcaraz in 2022.

"These are the wins you look for on tour. Saved match points, ups and downs, fighting and pulling through," Fonseca said after the match, with Stadium 3 turned into a football terrace by Brazilian fans. The ability to stay in the match at crucial moments tells you something beyond pure technical quality, which is already evident. Tommy Paul awaits in the third round.

🇵🇱 Swiatek Rallies From 5-1 And Books Sakkari

Iga Swiatek beat qualifier Kayla Day 6-0, 7-6(2), dominating the first set in twenty-eight minutes before finding herself down 5-1 in the second, then winning five consecutive games to close it out at the tiebreak. A comeback that is also her thirty-sixth 6-0 set in WTA 1000 events, the fifth most in history.

The match told two distinct stories: a near-perfect Swiatek in the first set, then a lapse in concentration that put her in an uncomfortable position. "I lost the thread for a few games," she admitted. The way she regained control, playing with more spin and confidence in her shots, says a lot about her ability to adapt even when things aren't working. Sakkari, who beat her in the Doha quarterfinals three weeks ago, awaits in the third round.

🇨🇦 Diallo Stuns Rublev In Nearly Three Hours

Gabriel Diallo eliminated seventeenth seed Andrey Rublev 6-7(4), 7-6(1), 6-3 in nearly three hours, with twelve aces and forty winners. The twenty-four-year-old Canadian claimed the biggest win of his career and will face compatriot Felix Auger-Aliassime in the third round, in an all-Canadian derby.

Rublev had another difficult day, the kind where frustration builds game after game and talent alone can't compensate for moments of mental fragility. For Diallo, the win comes at a time when he's trying to establish himself in the top 50, and matches of this magnitude, against opponents of this calibre, can make all the difference in a player's development.

🎾 Draper Defends Title, Fritz Advances, Darderi Out

Defending champion Jack Draper got past Roberto Bautista Agut 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, coming back after a tough first set. Taylor Fritz beat Jacob Fearnley 6-3, 6-7, 6-1, without too much trouble in front of the home crowd. On the WTA side, Elena Rybakina struggled against Hailey Baptiste before winning 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-2. Karolina Muchova extended her winning streak to seven by beating Anna Bondar 7-5, 6-2. Luciano Darderi was eliminated by Australian Rinky Hijikata 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, closing the tournament for the Italians with a record of two qualifiers reaching the third round out of five participants.

WHAT'S ON TODAY:

• Sinner vs Shapovalov (Stadium 1, third match, not before 1:00 PM local / 10:00 PM CET) - Jannik picks up where he left off after his 6-1 6-1 opening win. Shapovalov beat Etcheverry in a third-set tiebreak and can be dangerous on his day, but the level Sinner showed on Friday suggests a player firmly in control.
• Paolini vs Tomljanovic - Jasmine seeks the fourth round after her comeback against Potapova. Tomljanovic is a physical and tactically tough opponent, especially on hard court.
• Swiatek vs Sakkari - Rematch of the Doha quarterfinal. The Greek turned it around three weeks ago; this time Swiatek will be looking for answers.
• Gauff vs Eala (evening session) - Eala beat Yastremska in a late-night thriller and has nothing to lose. Gauff is warned.
