🇫🇷 Kouame, The Kid Who Shook Up The Calendar

Moise Kouame, who turned 17 on March 6, beat qualifier Zachary Svajda 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 on his absolute debut in a Masters 1000 main draw. With this win, he becomes the youngest player to win a match at this level since a sixteen-year-old Rafael Nadal in Hamburg in 2003, and the youngest winner in the history of the Miami tournament.

The age is what hits you first, but more than the number itself, the feeling is that Kouame handled the debut with a composure you don't expect at that age. He lost the first set, found himself down in a match that many in his position would have let slip, and instead found a way to turn it around without rushing. Novak Djokovic, his idol, sent him a congratulatory message after the match. Kouame's response: "I didn't know what to say back." Next up for him is Lehecka, the twenty-first seed.

🇮🇹 Berrettini Through To The Second Round, Bellucci Not

Matteo Berrettini dispatched Alexandre Muller 6-4, 6-2 in just over an hour, with a serve that clicked from the first game and a baseline solidity that hadn't been this consistent in a while. In the second round he faces Alexander Bublik, an opponent who never gives you the same match twice. Mattia Bellucci, on the other hand, was stopped right away: 6-2, 6-1 against Alex Michelsen, a match that never really got going, hampered by a serve that never found its rhythm.

On the WTA side, Elisabetta Cocciaretto beat Darja Semenistaja 6-4, 6-1 for her first win in five appearances in the Miami main draw, a small personal milestone that earns her a second-round match against Coco Gauff, scheduled for today.

🇧🇬 Dimitrov, A Costly Exit

Grigor Dimitrov was eliminated by Belgium's Raphael Collignon 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-6(6) in a match the Bulgarian had well in hand: leading 5-3 in the third set with a match point at his disposal, he couldn't close it out. Twenty-three aces and 80% of first-serve points won weren't enough to avoid a defeat that will have heavy ranking consequences, with Dimitrov set to slide out of the top 85.

More than the result itself, what stands out is the way it happened: a match he dominated in stretches but couldn't bring home in the decisive moments, a problem that has become recurring in recent months.

🎾 Marathon Thursday: Fifty Matches After The Rain

The Miami Open saw a marathon Thursday with around fifty matches crammed into a single day, after Wednesday's rain wiped out all 37 scheduled matches. Among the notable results: Fonseca beat Marozsan 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, booking a clash with Alcaraz; Tsitsipas defeated Fery 6-1, 7-6(4); qualifier Landaluce, a twenty-year-old Spaniard, eliminated Giron 6-3, 7-6(6). On the WTA side, Francesca Jones beat Venus Williams 7-5, 7-5 in a match the twenty-five-year-old Brit called "surreal," and Katie Boulter saved a set point and won an 11-9 tiebreak against Bouzas Maneiro before closing out 7-6(9), 6-4.

• Alcaraz vs Fonseca (Stadium, not before 7:00 PM local / 12:00 AM CET) - The most anticipated match of Friday. Fonseca comes off a grueling clash with Sinner at Indian Wells, where he pushed the world number two to two tiebreaks. First time the two face each other in an official match.
• Cocciaretto vs Gauff (Stadium, not before 1:00 PM local / 6:00 PM CET) - The Italian won their last head-to-head in Doha last month. Gauff starts as the favorite at home, but Cocciaretto arrives with the confidence of her first win in Miami.
• Sabalenka vs Ann Li (Stadium, following Cocciaretto-Gauff) - The defending champion makes her debut against the American. Sabalenka is coming off a title-winning run at Indian Wells and shows no signs of slowing down.
• Rybakina vs Putintseva (Stadium, not before 8:30 PM local / 1:30 AM CET) - Kazakh derby in the evening session. Rybakina, finalist at Indian Wells, seeks consistency.
• Ruud vs Quinn (Stadium, 12:00 PM local / 5:00 PM CET) - The eleventh seed opens the day on Stadium.
