Kyrgios Returns to Grass: Wild Card in Stuttgart on the Road to Wimbledon

Nick Kyrgios has accepted a wild card for the BOSS Open in Stuttgart, the ATP 250 on grass scheduled from June 8 to 14 at Tennis Club Weissenhof. For the Australian, it marks a return to the surface that made him famous, after years marred by injuries and a single match played in this 2026 season.

His recent record shows just how long the ordeal has been: since 2023, Kyrgios has played only seven singles matches, sidelined by knee and wrist problems that forced him to undergo two surgeries. His only appearance this season was a first-round defeat at the Brisbane International against Aleksandar Kovacevic.

Grass remains his most natural terrain, the surface on which he reached the 2022 Wimbledon final, lost to Novak Djokovic. It is no coincidence that he chose Stuttgart, two weeks before the Championships, to put himself to the test. "The Weissenhof is a fantastic facility, with excellent grass courts," he said. "I've always felt good here, the fans and the atmosphere are something special."

It is hard to say what he can offer after so long away from the court, and no one knows better than he does the gap that separates a wild card from the tennis that had carried him within a step of a Slam. But simply seeing him again on a grass court, racket in hand, is already the kind of news the season had been waiting for.
