Today is Friday, June 5, in Paris it's 8:30 and it's 13 degrees. Ok, let's go.

On the menu today

  • 🇷🇺 Andreeva sweeps past Kostyuk and reaches her first Slam final
  • 🇵🇱 Chwalinska edges past Shnaider: from qualifying to the Paris final
  • 🇮🇹 Today the all-Italian semifinal: Cobolli against Arnaldi
  • 🇩🇪 Zverev and Mensik open the program of the final four
  • 🎾 Saturday the women's final: Andreeva-Chwalinska, two new names

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY:

🇷🇺 Andreeva Into The Final In Control

Mirra Andreeva beat Marta Kostyuk 6-1 6-3, reaching the first Slam final of her career at nineteen. The number that best tells the story of the match is unforced errors, 22 against the Ukrainian's 34, because that is where the difference was made more than in the winners. Andreeva took control of the first set almost without conceding anything and managed Kostyuk's small comeback at 4-3 without ever giving the sense she might lose the thread. It is the kind of performance that, more than the scoreline, suggests just how comfortable the Russian feels at this stage of the tournament.

🇵🇱 Chwalinska, The Fairytale Goes All The Way

Maja Chwalinska got past Diana Shnaider 7-6(4) 6-4, becoming the first qualifier to reach the Roland Garros final. The Pole traded breaks at the start of the second set, then found the heavy shot at the right moment, breaking serve for 5-4 and closing out without trembling on serve. A run that had started in qualifying and that, match after match, stopped resembling an episode to become something harder to explain with numbers alone. Andreeva awaits her on Saturday, in a final that pits two opposite but equally unexpected paths against each other.

WHAT HAPPENS TODAY:

  • Zverev vs Mensik (Chatrier, from 14:30) - The German opens the men's semifinal program, chasing the Paris final he has been missing since 2024, against a Mensik in his first Slam semifinal. The head-to-head reads 1-0 Zverev, from their only meeting a month ago in Madrid, won 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3: a thin margin that leaves a few questions open.
  • Cobolli vs Arnaldi (not before 19:00) - The all-Italian semifinal, the first in the history of the men's Majors, with both making their debut in the last four at a Slam and the head-to-head level at 1-1 on the ATP. Whatever happens, Italy will once again have a finalist at Roland Garros, a year after Sinner.
