Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas ended up as neighbors in Gstaad, and it sparked a rally no court had planned for: the two knocked the ball back and forth from their respective balconies, from one window to the other, in a sequence that the tournament's official account reposted on social media, making it go viral within hours.

The scene comes from the EFG Swiss Open in Gstaad, the ATP 250 on the clay of the Roy Emerson Arena, whose main draw is underway these days in the Bernese Alps. The Norwegian, a two-time champion in Gstaad, and the Greek, a semifinalist here in 2024, are staying just a few meters apart: close enough to improvise a little long-distance exchange, without a net and without a chair umpire, among the wooden roofs of the Swiss village.

It's not the first time Gstaad has produced out-of-the-ordinary images.
