Musetti Nears His Return: Washington Will Be the Restart

Lorenzo Musetti has chosen the tournament for his return: the world number 14 appears in the entry list for the ATP 500 in Washington, scheduled from July 25 to August 2, the first event he is targeting after the tear to the rectus femoris of his left thigh that has kept him sidelined since the Rome Internazionali.

The injury weighed heavily on his season. The Tuscan had to give up Roland Garros and the entire grass-court season, Wimbledon included, thereby missing two of the most important dates on the calendar. His withdrawal from the Championships came after a long assessment: "The rehabilitation is going very well and the medical results are encouraging," Musetti had explained, adding that, without having yet begun full athletic preparation, the decision to stop was "difficult, but right," with the goal of returning at one hundred percent.

The appearance of his name among the entrants in Washington is the first concrete sign of that recovery process, even if it does not yet amount to a certainty: at a stage like this, an entry counts as a step forward, not as a definitive confirmation that he will be on court.

The choice nonetheless has its own logic. The 500 in the US capital opens the American hard-court swing and has often hosted players looking for rhythm after a layoff, offering an ideal setting to put minutes back in the legs ahead of the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters 1000 and, above all, before the US Open.
